Trezor, a company that specializes in cryptocurrency hardware wallets, is broadening its dedication to increasing Bitcoin literacy around the world with its latest venture in Africa. This was revealed during the recent Africa Bitcoin Conference, sponsored by Trezor, which took place in Ghana's capital, Accra, on December 4, according to details shared with Cointelegraph. The Trezor Academy's principal objective is to diffuse knowledge about Bitcoin across Africa. The project, first introduced on a test basis in 2023, seeks to organize face-to-face meetups conducted by local Bitcoin professionals, offering a learning platform for locals keen on understanding the cryptocurrency's prospects. Trezor's blog post reports that the experimental phase of the Trezor Academy has been launched successfully in Ghana, Nigeria, Cameroon, Uganda, Burundi, and Kenya. By the end of 2024, the firm aspires to launch academies in over ten new African countries, training more local instructors to disseminate Bitcoin expertise. Matej Zak, Trezor's CEO, believes African Bitcoin adoption is crucial as the cryptocurrency could be beneficial for several local projects, such as payment systems, small loans and savings. Trezor also sponsors Bitcoineta in Africa, a car manifesto aimed at increasing Bitcoin awareness across Western Africa, primarily in Ghana, Togo, Benin and Nigeria. Bitcoineta was initiated in 2018 by non-profit entities Bitcoin Argentina and Bitcoin Americana, its name a blend of "Bitcoin" and "camioneta," the Spanish term for minivan. Trezor states that Bitcoineta's campaign is being initiated in partnership with Bitcoin Cowries, a Bitcoin awareness program in Ghana. The campaign involves a land Rover branded with Bitcoineta touring the West African Economic Community, delivering the Bitcoin message to rural schools and communities across the region. The African Bitcoineta tour commenced on December 1, as announced by Trezor, with its journey being chronicled via Bitcoineta’s X (formerly Twitter) account through video blogs and other media channels. The establishment of the Trezor Academy was made feasible thanks to the Bitcoin community's support, including donations of 21 euros from each Trezor Safe 3 hardware wallet sold. The limited-edition, Bitcoin-only version was introduced in October.
