Studio369 has announced the third Closed Beta (CB3) for its online multiplayer game, MetalCore, with several new features including non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and Web3 technology. The new phase aims to balance gameplay for both frequent players and those willing to invest money for advancement. The integration with Web3 technology, implemented in partnership with Immutable, enhances in-game features without requiring a digital wallet. In parallel, gaming platform Ronin has expanded to support a wider gaming ecosystem with a zero-knowledge (ZK) Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) blockchain, potentially supporting up to four billion transactions daily.
Studio369 has declared the initiation of the third Closed Beta (CB3) for its online multiplayer game, MetalCore, scheduled to start on June 27. This forthcoming phase of beta testing will present various enhancements, including non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and Web3 technology inclusion into the game. Dan Nikolaides, the chief technology officer of MetalCore and former Midway and WB Games software engineer, discussed the transformation from Web2 to Web3 with Cointelegraph. Nikolaides explained that the game was constructed to be utilized without the need for a wallet, with an aim to attract both Web2 and Web3 players.
Adding NFTs will offer the players the chance to possess unique in-game assets that could be exchanged, establishing an economy driven by the players. Nikolaides shared insights on the insertion of "blueprints" that are essential for players to evolve and advance in the game. The scanning system has been designed to encourage players to play the game, find rare combinations of vehicles and mechs, and then scan them to obtain blueprints.
The latest beta phase also introduces SHARDS, a form of offchain currency that allows players to buy digital collectibles using fiat currencies. Nikolaides mentioned that the team is attempting to balance between players who play frequently and those who want to invest money to advance in the game.
CB3 allows integration of Web3 technology to enhance in-game features without the need for players to have a digital wallet. To appeal to conventional gamers and those familiar with blockchain technology, Studio369 collaborated with Immutable to incorporate this middleware layer. Nikolaides explained that the MetalCore team's approach is a gradual growth to ensure the game develops "responsibly".
In a related development, gaming platform Ronin recently announced its expansion to accommodate a wider gaming ecosystem via a zero-knowledge (ZK) Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) blockchain. This development, as stated by Sky Mavis's co-founder Jeff Zirlin, will accommodate up to four billion transactions daily. Ronin’s layer-2 zkEVM is designed to increase user capacity and provide support for game studio partners.
