Ronin Blockchain to Launch zkEVM Chain; Set to Boost Gaming Ecosystem and Handle Billions of Transactions
Summary:
Ronin, a gaming blockchain, plans to launch a zero-knowledge Ethereum Virtual Machine layer-2 chain called Ronin zkEVM. This technology is expected to draw more users and promote developers' growth, enabling them to create their own zkEVM blockchains. Originally used for the popular game Axie Infinity, Ronin's blockchain now supports a wider gaming ecosystem, with over 1.4 million daily active addresses. Increased scalability will also allow for the handling of up to billions of daily transactions and offer higher staking rewards. The ultimate goal is to create a unified gaming ecosystem with seamless asset transfers, token swaps, and non-fungible token trading.
The gaming-focused blockchain, Ronin, has disclosed plans to unleash Ronin zkEVM, a zero-knowledge Ethereum Virtual Machine (zkEVM) layer-2 chain, created with the Polygon Chain Development Kit, courtesy of Sky Mavis' customization. The decision to introduce this specialized zero-knowledge chain, declared on June 18, will hopefully draw many more users and promote the growth of Ronin's game developer partners. This will further strengthen a permissionless environment and allow for extended integration of gaming experiences.
Additionally, Ronin aims to bring in a dedicated Polygon ZK prover, offering game developers the opportunity to create their own zkEVM blockchains without the need to institute their own security and consensus.
Developed initially for the trending play-and-earn game, Axie Infinity, the Ronin blockchain can now accommodate a wider gaming ecosystem. Ronin's blockchain explorer shows that the network has already amassed over 1.4 million daily active addresses.
Sky Mavis' co-founder, Jeff Zirlin, revealed to Cointelegraph that they are setting up the network to manage billions of transactions. Under present conditions, Ronin can handle a maximum of 40 million transactions daily, but with zkEVM, the team is looking forward to accommodating up to 400 million or even four billion transactions daily.
Through Ronin zkEVM's amplified scalability, the Sky Mavis team anticipates that their partner studios can continue to grow and diversify their offerings. Already, some prominent blockchain games have joined the network and enjoyed increased patronage from the user base. For instance, Web3 game Pixels surged past 4.4 million users after moving to Ronin in October 2023.
Zirlin also pointed out the other potential benefits of zkEVM, including better cross-chain experience and possibly more rewards from staking.
Trung Nguyen, Sky Mavis' CEO, shared that their ambition is to make a unified gaming ecosystem where users can transfer assets, swap tokens, and trade non-fungible tokens across games on both layer-1 and layer-2 chains.
Meanwhile, with a unified Web3 gaming ecosystem in view, the collaboration between Polygon and Ronin is a significant stride towards a fresh wave of Web3 gaming, according to Polygon's Co-founder, Sandeep Nailwal. He praised Ronin's initiative of blending technology with distribution and user engagement. He also reassured that their Polygon CDK would boost Ronin's gaming ecosystem and make it an enticing destination for game developers.
