Offchain Labs Releases Arbitrum Stylus Tool, Onboarding More Developers to Ethereum Virtual Machines

Algoine News
Summary:
The recently released tool, Arbitrum Stylus, is expected to attract more developers to Ethereum Virtual Machines (EVM) by offering mature programming languages like Rust, C, and C++. Developed by Offchain Labs, Stylus provides faster computations and lower gas costs, making iPhone-compatible cryptography feasible. This tool has the potential to accelerate project launches and improve performance in blockchain-based games and machine learning evaluations.
Offchain Labs co-founder Ed Felten believes that the recently released tool, Arbitrum Stylus, could attract more developers to Ethereum Virtual Machines (EVM) and enhance its code. Speaking at Korea Blockchain Week, Felten explained that Stylus, which was released on a testnet on August 31, allows developers to use languages like Rust, C, and C++ to build Arbitrum apps. According to Felten, Stylus will make it easier for non-Web3 devs to utilize their preferred languages and development tools. Furthermore, the tool will bring in "a lot more developers" by offering a more mature and faster alternative to Solidity, the programming language for Ethereum smart contracts. Felten also highlighted the benefits of supporting legacy languages, such as Rust, which already have battle-tested and audited code. Additionally, Stylus reduces gas costs by 10 to 15 times, enabling more complex tasks to be done within the same transaction and making iPhone-compatible cryptography feasible. This opens up possibilities for integrating crypto wallets on iPhones and using Apple's FaceID for wallet transactions. Lower gas fees also have implications for blockchain-based games and the on-chain evaluation of machine learning models. Ultimately, Felten believes that Stylus will facilitate faster project launches, protect against bugs and errors, and provide better performance.
