Mi Primer Bitcoin, an education project based in El Salvador, has recently updated and relaunched its Bitcoin Diploma program, adopting an open-source approach. The project, which started in 2021, tied in with El Salvador's pioneering move to recognize Bitcoin as official currency. The revamped program was devised alongside numerous global Bitcoin educators and fans, aiming to cover a broad spectrum of Bitcoin topics, from its origins to technical operations and daily uses. In a significant move, the update has led to an open-source structure, with all resources, including the Student Workbook, easily accessible on GitHub. This was done with an aim to stimulate worldwide collaboration and translation initiatives. John Dennehy, the initiator and managing director at Mi Primer Bitcoin, highlighted the revolutionizing nature of Bitcoin education and its role in nurturing creativity, innovation, and strategic planning. Dennehy told Cointelegraph that this curriculum enhancement marks a “meaningful milestone” in the project's vision to “empower everyone through Bitcoin education.” He mentioned that constant efforts are in place to enhance content with each update, but strides had been made to develop robust infrastructure to facilitate its best use in different local settings, for instance, establishing a structured process for translations and setting best practice guidelines. The previous course was translated into nine languages over a year, and 26 translations for the new edition are in process. The previous course instructed over 25,000 El Salvadoran students and held many graduation ceremonies since the project started. In September 2023, Mi Primer Bitcoin collaborated with the Salvadoran Ministry of Education to incorporate Bitcoin education in the public school curriculum by 2024. Since then, Mi Primer Bitcoin has widened its influence beyond El Salvador, partnering with educational entities and governmental bodies worldwide. Last autumn, Bitcoin Cuba declared its impending partnership with this program, carrying Bitcoin education to local societies.
