Ethereum's Base Network Launches Mentorship Program to Train New Blockchain Developers

Algoine News
Summary:
The Ethereum layer-2 Base network is launching a free eight-week program called "Base Bootcamp," aiming to transform software engineers into blockchain developers. The selection process for the limited slots is application-based. Base stated this program's necessity lies in the lack of software developers knowledgeable in building Web3 apps. The course features weekly meet-ups with mentors, access to a skilled engineering team, a peer-interaction platform, and extra tasks for practicing new skills. However, to ensure commitment, students are required to deposit 1 Ether (ETH), refundable upon graduation.
The Ethereum layer-2 Base network's team released a statement on October 20, indicating their plan to start an eight-week learning scheme aimed to convert conventional software programmers into blockchain coders. The training, known as “Base Bootcamp,” is free of charge but targets mid to senior-level software engineers. Furthermore, only less than 20 applicants will be selected for each class following an enrollment application process that ends on October 27. According to Base, the importance of this scheme lies in the fact that a majority of software developers still lack knowledge in creating Web3 applications. They pointed out that whilst around 30 million people are software developers, the numbers of those working in the onchain field are less than 30,000, which is merely 0.1% of the total. Earlier, the team launched an accessible-to-all training scheme named “Base Camp,” but later deemed it insufficient due to the struggle of maintaining momentum alone when learning a complex new skill. They believe Base Bootcamp will fill this gap offering more support for those who prefer not to study independently. Features of the Base Bootcamp include assigning a mentor to each participant for weekly meetings and giving access to a team of Coinbase and Base engineers for query-solving sessions. Along with these, a special Discord network for interaction among students and Base engineers will be created, and extra tasks will be assigned and evaluated by team members. At the scheme's conclusion, participants will have to develop and demonstrate their own Web3 application. The course does not require tuition fees but needs students to deposit 1 Ether (ETH) to assure their commitment to finishing the course, which will be refunded upon graduation. This initiative is one of many in response to the reported scarcity of proficient Web3 developers, with some perspectives suggesting Web3 development should be taught in high schools, while others encourage creating user-friendly tools to simplify Web3 development.
