An unidentified group of cybercriminals have allegedly stolen personal details from around 300,000 clients of the Bitcoin ATM firm known as Coin Cloud, as stated by the clandestine cybersecurity profile Vx-underground via the platform X (previously Twitter). The cyber assailants reportedly infiltrated Coin Cloud and supposedly extracted roughly 70,000 customer photographs via ATM cameras along with personal information on activities, residential addresses, social security figures and more.
Moreover, the details are believed to include data on both US residents and users from Brazil. The cybercriminals also allege to have gained access to the foundational codes for Coin Cloud's backend system. At this point, Coin Cloud has yet to formally comment on the breach.
Requests for additional information from Coin Cloud and Vx-underground by Cointelegraph have not yet been answered. The digital currency ATM operator initiated bankruptcy proceedings this year. On February 8, Coin Cloud informed the public of its intention to file for Chapter 11 reorganization under the jurisdiction of a US bankruptcy court.
CEO Chris McAlary pointed out that this strategic move would allow the firm to manage their debt and safeguard the interests of their creditors. Filed paperwork on February 7 exposed that the company had liabilities ranging from $100 million to $500 million, while assets stood between $50 million and $100 million.
