Celestia to Integrate with Polygon's CDK for Enhanced Data Storage and Lower Transaction Costs

Algoine News
Summary:
Celestia network plans to integrate with Polygon's chain development kit (CDK) early next year, offering a "plug-and-play" component for Polygon-based networks to utilize Celestia for data storage. The integration could potentially lower transaction costs by storing compressed transaction data on Celestia instead of Ethereum. Polygon's CDK software is already being used by entities like OKX, Astar, Canto, Gnosis Pay, Palm and IDEX. Some networks in the Polygon's ecosystem store transaction data directly on the Ethereum network, while others store data on a separate network, like Celestia or Avail.
Celestia network is set to align with Polygon’s chain development kit (CDK) early next year, as was revealed in a communication on December 11. This integration aims to offer a convenient component for networks based on Polygon to employ Celestia for data availability purposes. The integration, as the declaration suggests, can cut back transaction costs by over a hundred-fold if networks opt to store compressed transaction data on Celestia as opposed to Ethereum. This option will be simplified in the 2024 integration, which embeds it within the Polygon CDK software itself. Polygon's co-founder, Sandeep Nailwal, refers to this as the "broadband moment for Web3", linked the ability to initiate a high-capacity ZK-powered Ethereum layer 2 with the simplicity of launching a smart contract to the impact of high-speed fiber on Web2 applications. The Polygon CDK software, a tool for developers aiming to construct new blockchain networks as part of a wider Polygon ecosystem, currently has users such as OKX, Astar, Canto, Gnosis Pay, Palm and IDEX, as highlighted in the statement. Part of Polygon's ecosystem are networks like the Polygon zero-knowledge Ethereum Virtual Machine, or "rollups" that store transaction data directly on the Ethereum network. Other networks, known as "validiums", only maintain validation proofs on Ethereum, while compressed transaction data is stored on a different network. Apart from Celestia, Avail is another network capable of storing transaction data for validiums.
