This caused a stir when, just three days later, Bitcoin inscriptions showed up on the U.S. CVE list as part of the NVD. The listing portrayed Bitcoin inscriptions as a cyber risk that enabled the creation of the Ordinals Protocol in 2022. Regardless, despite his clear criticism of Bitcoin Ordinals, Dashjr assured Cointelegraph he had no involvement in listing inscriptions on the CVE. Data from mempool.space shows a backlog of more than 275,000 transactions, with resulting increases in average transaction costs from about $1.50 to around $14. Should the so-called Inscriptions bug be addressed, it might limit the use of Ordinals inscriptions on the Bitcoin network in the future.
