Arbitrum's Mainnet Remains Fraud-Proof Free since Launch, Introduces BOLD Protocol for Enhanced Security

He did mention that there were a few fraud-proof attempts on the Ethereum proof-of-work version of Arbitrum before the Merge, which were successfully challenged. According to Felten, the fear of losing their entire stake deters potential malicious validators from attempting fraudulent activities. Currently, there are approximately 12 permissioned validators participating in the fraud-proof game on Arbitrum. However, Felten stated that Arbitrum is in the process of introducing a new version of fraud proofs called the "BOLD" protocol, which offers faster guarantee for challenges. This protocol ensures that no matter how many stakes they sacrifice, adversaries will be defeated in approximately eight days. Offchain Labs announced the rollout of the BOLD protocol on August 4th. Felten also mentioned that Arbitrum's fraud proof feature will soon become permissionless, allowing anyone to contribute to the security of the chain through challenge submissions.
