China Launches Over 70 Artificial Intelligence Models, Baidu's CEO Reveals Large Language Models (LLMs) with More Than 1 Billion Parameters
Summary:
China has released over 70 artificial intelligence (AI) models, including large language models (LLMs), with more than 1 billion parameters. Baidu's CEO, Robin Li, shared this news along with the launch of their latest chatbot version, Ernie 3.5. Alibaba also introduced two new AI models to rival Meta's Llama 2. China's new AI laws have enabled companies to conduct larger-scale tests and introduce more features in their AI products.
Baidu's CEO, Robin Li, announced that China has released more than 70 artificial intelligence (AI) models in the country. These models, consisting of over 1 billion parameters, can be classified as large language models (LLMs). In comparison, Meta's Llama, released this year, contains 65 billion parameters, while OpenAI's Chat GPT-4, rumored to have over 170 trillion parameters, hasn't disclosed its details publicly. The number of parameters plays a vital role in LLMs as it allows them to capture more data details, resulting in better performance. Baidu recently launched its latest version of the chatbot, Ernie 3.5, which has a processing speed twice as fast as its previous version and 50% improved efficiency. The company also has plans to release a newer version in the near future. Furthermore, Alibaba, another prominent Chinese tech giant, unveiled two open-source AI models earlier this summer to compete with Meta's Llama 2. China recently implemented new AI laws, which expanded the test size and allowed more features for AI products.
