World Mobile Deploys Blockchain-Powered Aerostat to Deliver Telecom Services in Mozambique

CEO Micky Watkins proudly shared that this technology not only offers a cost-efficient alternative to traditional telecom infrastructure, but also can be deployed swiftly in remote locations. Vodacom Mozambique, Vodafone's global telecom subsidiary, contributed spectrum and resources. World Mobile in past field tests has utilized unexploited television spectrum and Starlink technology in Kenya, Mozambique, and Nigeria. It has also collaborated with IOHK on mesh networks in Tanzania. The announcement of their partnership with Vodacom using aerostat technology to connect the unconnected segments in Mozambique was shared by World Mobile on December 20, 2023.
The unique economic model of World Mobile compensates the operators of its AirNodes technical equipment in fiat, whereas World Mobile Token (WMT) is rewarded to blockchain node operators, stakers, and users engaged in staking for discounted services on its decentralized physical infrastructure network, positioned on Cardano. On August 22, World Mobile introduced its app on Google Play for the users in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, and Tanzania. The app has been made available in Zanzibar as well. One of their competitor, Safaricom M-Pesa Mobile Financial Service acquired a mobile money-service license in Ethiopia in May, and currently can be accessed in nine other African countries.
