Unstoppable Domains and Blockchain.com are collaborating to establish and market a Web3 domain with “.blockchain” DNS capabilities. Stated in the announcement reported to Cointelegraph, the partnership's aim is to register the .blockchain Web3 domain with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), the internationally recognized authority for IP addresses and domain names. The affiliation will revolve around the .blockchain Web3 domain, poised to be submitted for ICANN's upcoming six years registration program next year. ICANN plans to introduce new generic top-level domains (gTLDs) by the second quarter of 2026, giving Unstoppable Domains and Blockchain.com a year to get prepared for the submission.
Over the years, Blockchain.com has welcomed 40 million validated users, generated upwards of 90 million cryptocurrency wallets, and facilitated transactions of $1.2 trillion worth of cryptocurrency. Sandy Carter, the COO of Unstoppable Domains, showed enthusiasm over the potential of boosting Web3 adoption through this partnership. Adding further, she stated that the collaboration with Blockchain.com will allow a cost-efficient digital identity solution to provide an accessible crypto experience for the wider audience. Lane Kasselman, the president of Blockchain.com reinforced Carter's feelings expressing his anticipation towards the engagement with ICANN to accomplish their universal vision.
If approved by ICANN, global users will get opportunities to register .blockchain domains for the Web2 framework. Unstoppable Domains aims to extend domain registration rights by providing specialized domain names to users, business firms, and brands.
