Algoine News
Summary:
The Uniswap Foundation has outlined plans for the launch of Uniswap protocol's version 4, set tentatively for Q3 2024, following the pending Dencun upgrade on the Ethereum network. Currently in the "Code Freeze" phase, the foundation aims to engage audit firms and the community for code validation. The upgrade is expected to be the most comprehensively audited code on Ethereum and will be deployed to the testnet for final refinements. The exact launch may vary based on the success of the Dencun upgrade.
The Uniswap Foundation, a key player in the decentralized finance (DeFi) landscape, has revealed plans to launch the fourth version of the Uniswap protocol, pending the completion of the Dencun upgrade on the Ethereum network. A detailed rollout plan for the new version was proposed on X and currently, the organization is engrossed in the "Code Freeze" phase. This involves finalizing its core code, undergoing testing, optimizing gas usage, enhancing security, and wrapping up peripheral details. The news of the pending Dencun upgrade on the Mainnet, slated for March 2024, is followed by a planned debut of Uniswap v4 tentatively set for Q3 2024. In the run-up to this milestone, the Uniswap Foundation will be leveraging the expertise of audit firms and community stakeholders to validate v4’s code. As per the team's projection, Uniswap v4 is expected to be the most thoroughly audited code ever to operate on the Ethereum network. Concurrently, the Decentralized Exchange (DEX) will be made available on the testnet as the team undertakes the last-minute tweaks. The organization pinpointed that the version's transition to the Ethereum mainnet in Q3 2024 is not set in stone and can be revised based on the outcome of the Dencun upgrade, as reported by Cointelegraph. In more context, the Dencun upgrade on the Ethereum network was initiated on the Goerli testnet on January 17, introducing several Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs) such as EIP-4844. This critical protocol is aimed at decreasing layer 2 transaction charges. Despite a delay of four hours on the Goerli testnet, the upgrade was seamlessly implemented on the second Ethereum testnet, Sepolia, on January 31, and concluded on the third, Holesky, on February 7. The official announcement that the Dencun upgrade will be transitioned to the mainnet at “slot 8626176” was made by Ethereum developer Tim Beiko on February 8. The exact timing, according to Nethermind's blockchain research, will be March 13, 2024, at 13:55:35 UTC. The precise date was determined during a developer call on February 8 after the successful deployment on the Holesky testnet.
