The alliance was formalized on March 19, with Square Enix committing an unspecified investment in HyperPlay. The investment is earmarked to grow and expand the HyperPlay game store. As a part of this collaboration, Square Enix's digital art experience "SYMBIOGENESIS," which is based on MetaMask and focuses on digital asset ownership, is set to debut on the HyperPlay platform.
Describing the investment and partnership as "thrilling," Hideaki Uehara, Square Enix's Investment Manager, stressed on the exceptional product that HyperPlay has developed to enhance game distribution and establish more profitable business models for game developers.
This recent merger comes as Square Enix is working to overhaul its organizational structure with an emphasis on supporting blockchain, AI and Web3 technology.
JacobC.eth, HyperPlay's founder, highlighted that this funding will allow the gaming platform to revolutionize the gaming sector, stressing on the current issues with conventional distribution platforms that restrict game developers' utilization of web3. As part of the gaming industry, they believe that adopting new business models that align the interests of both players and developers is crucial in ensuring a steady stream of top-quality games.
A HyperPlay spokesperson also shared plans for upcoming features and announcements to enhance the user experience and expand the platform. Mac users will soon have expanded access to the platform. Furthermore, a collaboration with Amazon planned for the second quarter of 2024 will enable Prime users to access the HyperPlay ecosystem. According to the same spokesperson, Prime members will be able to launch Amazon Prime Gaming titles through HyperPlay and redeem exclusive rewards and free games directly from the HyperPlay Store.
