Solana Unveils Beta Update v1.17.31 to Tackle Ongoing Network Congestion Issues

Algoine News
Summary:
Solana developers have introduced a beta update, v1.17.31, aimed at addressing ongoing network congestion issues on the Solana blockchain. The update encompasses several enhancements, including improved network congestion handling, and has now got the nod for use by mainnet beta validators. Validators are advised to adopt the patch only when the delinquent stake is less than 5%. Despite developers' continuous efforts, the rise in network demand has surpassed their interventions, leading to ongoing problems. However, a series of patches have been developed to solve these issues, with the first one released already.
The team behind Solana has unveiled a beta update, v1.17.31, in an effort to address persistent congestion issues on the Solana blockchain. The update, which was released on the 12th of April, has undergone three days of testing and is now suggested for usage by mainnet beta validators. The new update features improvements to help alleviate network congestion issues and will be supplemented by additional fixes in v1.18. The present version aims to rectify the network traffic snags and open interest jump phenomena. Some major improvements include: showcasing staked versus non-staked packets sent or throttled, crafting banking stage forwarding filters, reinforcing the minimal streams per 100ms for staked nodes, treating extremely low-staked as unstaked in streamer QOS, and setting the default staked client in LocalCluster. Solana developer Anza has suggested validators to adopt the patch only when their delinquent stake is less than 5%. In Solana parlance, delinquency refers to idle validators, with the percentage indicating the aggregate stake for offline validators. Thus, validators are advised to apply the updates only if less than 5% of the validator stakes on the network are inactive. Amid escalating network activity and a surge in memecoin, Solana's network has endured nearly a week of congestion, with a transaction failure rate peaking at 75%. Solana's co-founder maintains that the ongoing network congestion troubles stem from a bug, not a network problem. Factors contributing to the current congestion include the high demand for Solana block space and patch implementation delays to mitigate network issues. Austin Federa, Solana Foundation's strategy chief, told Cointelegraph that despite developers' round-the-clock efforts, the demand for network services has exceeded the pace of their interventions. However, Solana’s developers have created a series of patches to solve the ongoing problems, with the first one released for developers today.
