Softbank CEO Predicts AI to Outsmart Humans by 2030, Company Shares Dip

Algoine News
Summary:
Masayoshi Son, CEO of Japanese investment giant Softbank, predicts that by 2030, artificial intelligence (AI) will outsmart humans by up to ten times, and by 2035, it will be 10,000 times smarter. He made these comments during Softbank's annual conference, emphasizing the company's commitment to developing an "artificial super intelligence” (ASI) that could transform human life. However, Son's reflections on his mortality and the company's future led to a more than three-percent dip in Softbank's shares.
Masayoshi Son, the top boss and creator of Softbank, the Japanese investment superpower, proposes that by 2030 artificial intelligence (AI) will have intellectual superiority over humans, reaching 1 to 10 times, and by 2035, it will be 10,000 times more intelligent. This bold prediction was shared by Son during Softbank's yearly gathering in Tokyo on June 21, where he shared company's future plans with his staff through a highly emotive discourse. The key insight from the founder's remarks implies Softbank's commitment to nurturing an "artificial super intelligence"(ASI) that may revolutionize human lifestyle. Son expanded on the topics of artificial general intelligence (AGI) and ASI. According to the head of Softbank, AGI can match a human "genius", with up to tenfold the aptitude. By contrast, ASI would possess human intellect or abilities that surpass 10,000 times over, vastly superior to where human brain's capacity theoretically limits. There is no shared scientific view currently on AGI or ASI's potential abilities or the feasibility of such entities with contemporary technology. To this day, AI systems with human equivalent cognition are still within the realm of theory. Son proceeded to discuss his own existence and the future of Softbank, an issue that may have given investors a scare as the shares of the company declined more than three percent at the close of Tokyo's stock exchange following the gathering. Seen in a video recording of the event made available to Cointelegraph, Son revealed that he "felt aged" two years ago and was inspired to live a significant life. He further clarified, "Why was Softbank created? Why I, Masa Son, was born? It might sound odd, but I perceive my life's purpose is to achieve ASI. I am extremely serious about it." It's worth noting Apple's decision to hold back AI rollouts in the European Union due to Digital Markets regulations.
