A software developer from Russia, Aleksandr Zhadan, has found love using artificial intelligence (AI), specifically ChatGPT and other AI tools, leading him to engage with over 5,000 women on the dating app Tinder. Zhadan, who is the product manager at TenChat, announced on Jan. 30 on thread X about his upcoming August nuptials to the AI-selected Karina Imranovna, following the narrowing down of 5,239 Tinder matches through the AI mechanism he created.
The system was programmed to automatically eliminate women based on his specific deal breakers, engage in casual conversations, set up dates, and even assisted him during his marriage proposal to his current fiancé. Zhadan began this novel approach in 2022, following a year after he ended a two-year relationship in 2021 with a woman who now asserts they were just friends. Zhadan explains that his return to the dating scene was fraught with frustrations as each relationship lacked longevity, quickly fizzling out after several weeks.
Zhadan's first foray toward AI-assistdance was a straightforward script under the GPT-3 API that automatically selected profiles of women who uploaded more than two photos. However, with the arrival of ChatGPT in November 2022, he upgraded his AI system, now named V2. The advanced system used photo recognition to filter out women with profile images of their chest or zodiac signs, alongside his other unique specifications.
V2 also improved Zhadan's AI assistant's conversational skills, allowing it to mimic his natural speaking style with potential matches. According to Zhadan, V2 effectively identified better matches, had extended conversations and interacted with more profiles. However, he admitted that there were a few hitches such as the AI spontaneously promising chocolates or flowers or even scheduling dates in conflict with each other. To resolve these issues, Zhadan optimized the system by integrating it with Google Calendar and creating a feature to seek his input when the AI struggled to respond.
In due course, Zhadan realized he couldn't manage the high volume of matches and started limiting his interactions to four women. It was among these four women that he seriously connected with Karina. This connection led him to design a third version of the AI, V3, which was solely dedicated to interacting with Karina, assisting him whenever he couldn't respond immediately.
Their relationship reached a pivotal point in November when ChatGPT recommended Zhadan to propose to Karina, even assisting in planning the engagement during a trip to Macau and Hong Kong. Zhadan shared a screenshot indicating a marriage registration booking confirmation, indicating that they are due to get married on August 3, 2024.
Interestingly, Zhadan previously used OpenAI's ChatGPT to write his entire university thesis in 2022, a move that not only got him his degree but also gained media attention. He managed the completion of this project in around 120 hours and $1,432 in API, while the restaurant bills crushed to 200 rubles. He concluded by thanking ChatGPT for the financial and time savings it provided him.
However, attempts to get additional comments from Zhadan were unsuccessful at the time of this report.
