Robust Growth and Collaboration Power zkDay Istanbul, Highlighting Momentum in Zero-Knowledge Tech
Summary:
The zkDay event in Istanbul saw over 1,200 attendees, including Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, reflecting the growing interest in zero-knowledge (ZK) technology. The event, sponsored by Manta Network, Polyhedra Network, and the =nil; Foundation, facilitated networking, knowledge sharing and collaboration among ZK projects of various stages. It also showcased the Pitch competition with high-quality projects, many of which have previously won at ETH Global. A common goal within the ZK community is improving user experiences and onboarding users to next-gen consumer products. With the ZK community exploring use cases for these consumer products, the prospect of partnerships continues to be key in this rapidly evolving field.
As zero-knowledge (ZK) technology continues to find solutions for mainstream scenarios, its supporting community gains momentum. The latest zkDay event in Istanbul witnessed the participation of over 1,200 ZK developers, community members, and enthusiasts, including Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin. While regular ZK meetings pull in between 1,500 and 4,000 attendees, the level of enthusiasm for knowledge exchange and collaboration at zkDay Istanbul, which built on the success of zkDay Paris, showed significant growth.
Various ZK-related projects came together to network and engage with key representatives from Manta Network, Polyhedra Network, and the =nil; Foundation, who sponsored the event. "The attendence at zkDay reflects the community's interest in this domain, and it's thrilling to see this interest rising from one country to the next," said Kenny Li, the COO and co-founder of the Manta Network.
The zkDay events in Istanbul also coincided with Devconnect 2023, an occasion dedicated to Ethereum community builders and researchers. A notable feature of zkDay was the Pitch competition, which witnessed participation from a number of high-quality projects, many of which have been successful in competitive events like ETH Global. Li anticipates collaborations with ETH Global, the Pitch sponsor, to offer wider exposure to promising up-and-coming projects.
Abner Jia, the CEO of Polyhedra Network, also expressed optimism about the burgeoning ZK community. He emphasized the skyrocketing interest in zero-knowledge technology, asserting that "the community is on a robust growth path."
Improving user experience is a common objective across the ZK community, with projects aiming to introduce users to next-gen consumer goods. Li highlighted the importance of the Universal Circuits at Manta Pacific, where they can provide ZK-as-a-Service, allowing developers to launch EVM-compatible decentralized apps that utilize ZK without delving into the cryptographic elements.
The zkDay Istanbul attendees applauded the strong connection within the ZK community to the core mission of the Web3 developers, users, and community. Despite apparent divergences in focus areas and priorities, the underlying ethos of decentralization and innovation remains unified.
Jia foresees tremendous potential for ZK technology, noting that collaboration is crucial for the ZK ecosystem to flourish. "We're all working towards a just, decentralized future. Utilizing zk is just one more step towards that goal!," Li added.
Discussing the future trajectory of ZK, Jia announced Polyhedra's newly unveiled distributed proof system on zkBridge, called deVirgo. Jia encourages collaboration, stating that entrepreneurs aiming to leave their mark in zk should keep a close eye on their advancements and applications given the rapid evolution of zk technology. The budding ZK community is currently investigating use cases to devise next-gen consumer products utilizing intuitive EVM-compatible decentralized applications.
