Rare Alien-Themed CryptoPunk NFT Auctioned for a Jaw-Dropping $16 Million in Record Sale

Algoine News
Summary:
CryptoPunks, a leading nonfungible token (NFT) collection, saw another record-breaking sale in March, as a rare NFT sold for approximately $16 million. Specifically, CryptoPunk #7804, one of the collection's scarce alien-themed NFTs, was purchased for 4,850 ETH. This comes after CryptoPunk #3100 sold for roughly the same amount earlier in the month. These sales have significantly boosted the overall sales volume for the entire NFT market.
The renowned nonfungible token (NFT) series CryptoPunks recorded another high-profile sale in March, with a rare alien digital artifact fetching nearly $16 million in Ether (ETH). On March 20, CryptoPunk #7804 was sold for a staggering 4,850 ETH, totaling approximately $16.4 million at the time of the transaction. The sale became the second most expensive CryptoPunk deal ever. This occurred in the wake of another major NFT transaction earlier in the month. On March 4, CryptoPunk #3100 changed hands for 4,500 ETH, amounting to roughly $16 million at the point of sale. This deal has the distinction as the third most costly CryptoPunk purchase, having been bumped to third place by the recent sale of CryptoPunk #7804. The token in question, CryptoPunk #7804, is one of 10,000 NFTs in its series. However, it's unique attributes contribute to its high value. The character depicted in the NFT sports a cap that is worn by only 254 CryptoPunks. It also has a pipe, a feature found only in 317 CryptoPunks, and compact sunglasses featured by 378 tokens in this series. The real standout feature though, making it truly rare, is that it is one of only nine alien-themed CryptoPunks. The seller, Peruggia, shared thoughts about the sale on platform X, describing it as "the end of an era" and admitted to feelings of fraudulence for not recognising the piece for its true potential. Peruggia originally purchased this CryptoPunk in March 2021 for 4,200 ETH, equivalent to $7.5 million at the time. Despite receiving offers around $18 million in 2022, the trader retained the piece for over three years. This transaction previously held the record for the second-priciest CryptoPunk deal before the duo of $16 million transactions this month. The deal has been met with acclaim within the community. Many have praised the sale and expressed appreciation to the seller for preserving this valuable NFT. The purchase of CryptoPunk #7804 has boosted the collection's sales volume, placing it ahead of other hot NFTs like NodeMonkeys and Mad Lads in weekly deals. Data from CryptoSlam reveals that CryptoPunks accumulated $21.5 million in sales over the previous week alone. Amid the flurry of big-ticket NFT transactions across various blockchains, the sales volume for NFTs has soared. In the past month, NFT transactions have accumulated a total of $1.5 billion across different blockchain networks.
