He voiced concerns via Twitter (now X), indicating that CBDCs could potentially lead to financial oppression and political despotism, and that it could be a first step towards a Bitcoin ban and confiscation. This led the U.S. Federal Reserve Board to initiate an awareness drive to distinguish the difference between FedNow and CBDC.
Ahead of his announcement, Kennedy had been giving hints for several days. October 2 saw the political action committee (PAC) backing him, named American Values 2024, publicize survey results which suggested that Kennedy might be the most influential independent nominee in recent U.S. electoral history, with 19% voter support. This, in comparison to the 38% backing both the current President Joe Biden and ex-president Donald Trump.
In the 2024 presidential race, many independent candidates have put their names forward, but only a small number have garnered significant attention. The lone Democratic candidate challenging Biden is now author Marianne Williamson.
