RFK Jr. Pulls out of Democratic Race to Run as Independent, Advocates for Bitcoin

Algoine News
Summary:
Presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a crypto supporter, abandoned his Democratic primary campaign to run as an Independent. Kennedy's vision includes making America a global hub for cryptocurrency, and his plans involve tying the USD to tangible assets like gold, silver, platinum, and Bitcoin. His views on cryptocurrencies align with Republican candidate Ron DeSantis. Nevertheless, with Joe Biden and Donald Trump leading the polls, the next president might be a CBDC supporter.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr., popularly known as RFK Jr., a pro-cryptocurrency United States presidential aspirant, declared his decision to abandon his campaign for the Democratic nomination in favor of running as an Independent. He made this announcement on October 9 at a political rally in Philadelphia. His statement was clear, he's now running as an Independent. A crypto enthusiast, Kennedy expressed his vision to establish America as the central node for cryptocurrency, specifically Bitcoin. He disclosed plans back in July to tie the USD to tangible assets namely gold, silver, platinum, and Bitcoin (BTC). Kennedy has been critical of the Federal Reserve’s instant payment system, FedNow, even comparing it to a central bank digital currency (CBDC). He voiced concerns via Twitter (now X), indicating that CBDCs could potentially lead to financial oppression and political despotism, and that it could be a first step towards a Bitcoin ban and confiscation. This led the U.S. Federal Reserve Board to initiate an awareness drive to distinguish the difference between FedNow and CBDC. Ahead of his announcement, Kennedy had been giving hints for several days. October 2 saw the political action committee (PAC) backing him, named American Values 2024, publicize survey results which suggested that Kennedy might be the most influential independent nominee in recent U.S. electoral history, with 19% voter support. This, in comparison to the 38% backing both the current President Joe Biden and ex-president Donald Trump. In the 2024 presidential race, many independent candidates have put their names forward, but only a small number have garnered significant attention. The lone Democratic candidate challenging Biden is now author Marianne Williamson. Kennedy's family has been synonymous with the Democratic Party for generations. However, with RFK Jr.'s stance on several prominent issues such as his anti-vaccine approach, he has isolated himself from the party's core members as well as his own family. RFK Jr.’s thoughts on crypto are pretty much in line with Republican aspirant and Florida governor, Ron DeSantis, especially their shared views against FedNow and CBDCs and their support for Bitcoin. However, DeSantis trails far behind Trump for the Republican primary nomination. Given that Biden and Trump are front runners for the two primary U.S. parties, the next president could possibly be a crypto opposition advancing CBDCs. This comes despite industry predictions that crypto could sway the electorate's decision in the 2024 presidential polls.
