QANplatform Launches Groundbreaking Quantum-Resistant Blockchain Testnet Compatible with EVM

Algoine News
Summary:
QANplatform has unveiled the first quantum-resistant blockchain testnet compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM). This development allows for the creation of quantum-resistant smart contracts using any programming language. The initiative addresses concerns about transitioning blockchain platforms to post-quantum cryptography, following the launch of the second-largest quantum processor, IBM Condor, in December 2023. The testnet opens up the possibility for EVM-compatible protocols to trial a quantum-resistant alternative without endangering user funds on the mainnet.
QANplatform has unveiled the first ever quantum-resistant blockchain testnet to work in harmony with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), fostering the creation of quantum-proof smart contracts. The innovative testnet grants developers the ability to craft smart contracts in any programming language, as revealed in a communication from QANplatform. This groundbreaking initiative marks the creation of the first quantum-proof cybersecurity EVM-compatible testnet, said Johann Polecsak, Co-founder and CTO of QANplatform. He emphasized the difficulty of transitioning to post-quantum cryptography on blockchain platforms due to their decentralized nature, as opposed to companies, governments and organizations which can more easily adapt their IT security. Since IBM Condor, the world's second-largest quantum processor was launched in December 2023, post-quantum security has become a crucial issue. Polecsak explained the detrimental impact of implementing quantum-resistant security measures on preeminent decentralized blockchain networks like Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana. Nevertheless, the QANplatform testnet empowers EVM-compatible protocols to trial their switch to a quantum-resistant substitute without endangering user funds on the mainnet. The announcement of the testnet comes following the first European country's adoption of QANplatform’s quantum-resistant technology in March to secure government-owned cybersecurity infrastructure. Across the globe, entities are getting ready for a post-quantum time. In 2018, The European Commission started the Quantum Flagship research project with a decade-long tenure and a budget of a minimum of 1 billion euros. Quantum-resilient technology is deemed indispensable to counter the 'Store now, decrypt later' cybersecurity risk as is cited by Polecsak. This threat pertains to attackers amassing encrypted data to decrypt later with superior computational methods, including quantum computers. Large-scale corporations are also preparing for a time post-quantum. Earlier in February, Apple, one of the few quantum-proof messaging providers rolled out an update to future-proof iMessages with post-quantum cryptography. Polecsak further pointed out that while development of quantum computers may be a slow process, post-quantum security needs to outpace it as enduring qubits will be able to unlock present-day key cybersecurity algorithms.
