Algoine News
Summary:
John Deaton, a pro-XRP lawyer, has declared his aim to challenge cryptocurrency critic Senator Elizabeth Warren for the Massachusetts Senate seat. With his sizeable following of 324,100 crypto enthusiasts, Deaton called for campaign donations and invested $500,000 of his own money. He seeks to raise an additional $500,000 in cash or crypto donations by the end of the quarter, in preparation for the election on September 3rd. Notably, Charles Hoskinson, founder of Cardano, has endorsed Deaton's campaign.
John Deaton, a lawyer known to advocate for the cryptocurrency XRP, has expressed his intent to contest for the Massachusetts Senate seat against Senator Elizabeth Warren, a known critic of cryptocurrencies. Through a post on X (formerly known as Twitter), Deaton asked his substantial followship of crypto enthusiasts - numbering at 324,100 - to fund his campaign. In a show of commitment, he dedicated $500,000 of his personal wealth to campaign expenses, while maintaining a confident outlook about defeating Warren, despite her 11-year hold on the position. “Contrary to popular belief, Elizabeth Warren is not invincible in Massachusetts." He said. "I've committed $500K of my personal funds because I believe in my chances of winning. Help me hit the $1 million mark by March 31. You can donate traditionally or in Crypto, because freedom hangs in the balance." The election is slated for September 3rd. Calling upon his supporters, Deaton wants to match his personal contribution by raising another $500,000, which can be either in cash or cryptocurrency. “Self-belief is paramount. If I could self-finance the entirety of my campaign I would, since freedom is at stake. I need your assistance. I aim to raise $1 million before the quarter ends.” On 4th March, Charles Hoskinson, founder of Cardano, disclosed to his followers that he has contributed to Deaton's campaign because he believes the nation needs individuals "unafraid of challenging the establishment – the banks writing our laws and dismantling the Crypto industry". Cointelegraph reported that Deaton officially launched his run for the United States Senate seat in Massachusetts on 20th February. In a video posted on his X account on the same day, he said his campaign prioritizes “tackling the Washington elite”, alleging that Senator Elizabeth Warren is unproductive for Massachusetts. Although Deaton hasn’t prominently incorporated the crypto conversation into his campaign, it’s no secret that there’s a rift between him and public servants critical of crypto, Warren included. In December 2023, Warren suggested there’s a cycle between the crypto industry and Washington DC insiders, with potential implications that numerous governmental officials might be paving their way to secure lobbying positions in the digital asset sector while in public service. A magazine mentioned that John Deaton, the Pro-XRP lawyer, is '10x more invested in Bitcoin and 4x in Ethereum'.
