Polygon's zkEVM Faces Downtime: Tech Issue Sparks Talks Among Crypto Community

Algoine News
Summary:
Polygon's Ethereum scaling protocol, the zkEVM, is facing downtime due to an issue with its blockchain sequencer. This problem is not affecting any other chains produced with the Polygon Chain Development Kit. The company is working to resolve the issue, with plans to provide a detailed report upon its fix. This incident has provoked discussions among the crypto community regarding the lack of discussion surrounding Polygon's prolonged network downtime.
Polygon, an Ethereum scaling protocol, recently declared that its zero-knowledge Ethereum Virtual Machine (zkEVM) is facing downtime resulting from an issue with its blockchain sequencer. In an announcement made on X, the company assured its audience of two million followers that this particular issue is isolated to the zkEVM and isn't affecting any other chains created with the Polygon Chain Development Kit (CDK). The problem at hand is due to the blockchain sequencer, whose role is to assemble and incorporate transactions into bundles before dispatching them to the Ethereum's L1-located Polygon zkEVM smart contract. The company made it clear that they're working proactively to rectify the issue and will provide a thorough "post-mortem" report upon its resolution. Reference was made during this announcement to the ongoing downtime of zkEVM. The crypto community's apparent silence on this significant networking issue has initiated speculation among many X platform participants. X user 0xngmi, with 101,900 followers, raised the concern, "why has there been no discussion surrounding the 10-hour downtime of Polygon zkEVM?” Another user of the platform, under the username Mirza.inj with 14,800 followers, also highlighted the absence of discussion about the lengthy downtime of "Polygon zkEVM." Related: Recently, Polygon’s new $100M fund has targeted to back digital property Pixelmon, among other initiatives. In March 2023, the zkEVM was launched on Polygon's mainnet beta with the objective of allowing developers to implement smart contracts at higher finality and lower expense. In the aftermath of its launch, Cointelegraph noted that it effectively reproduces Ethereum's mainnet transaction execution environment. Furthermore, Polygon advocated that their open-source zkEVM bolsters decentralized applications (DApps) by leveraging transaction packaging, which allows for substantial performance boosts. Featured in the "Slumdog billionaire 2" magazine, Co-founder of Polygon Sandeep Nailwal voiced his dissatisfaction, stating that "breaking into the top 10 brings no satisfaction".
