Panini Launches WWE Superstars Digital Card Set on its Blockchain

Algoine News
Summary:
Italian company Panini is launching a digital Donruss Elite card set of 100 WWE Superstars on the Panini Blockchain. The set features many iconic wrestlers, with digital packs offering limited-edition digital assets and opportunities to engage in collector events and contests. This is not WWE's first experience with NFTs, they have been engaged in the digital collectibles domain for several years. Despite a tepid response to previous offerings, Panini and WWE anticipate a stronger reception to the Donruss Elite blockchain cards, citing the synergy between the dedicated WWE fanbase and the blockchain collectible community.
Panini, an Italian firm renowned for cards, comics, and collectible items, has disclosed their plan to unveil a digital Donruss Elite card set of 100 World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) Superstars on the Panini Blockchain. Iconic WWE Superstars like John Cena, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, Roman Reigns, Finn Bálor, Damian Priest, Rhea Ripley, and Lyra Valkyria, Undertaker, Chyna, Chelsea Green, among others, will be featured in the set. In the spirit of the WWE premiere on #PaniniBlockchain, Panini #DonrussElite WWE packages will be accessible on Panini Blockchain Wednesday, Feb 14 at 10am CT, presenting legendary and current superstars. Panini and WWE, in a joint statement, revealed that customers could experience the thrill of unwrapping their digital packs virtually, revealing limited-edition digital assets with a chance to engage in various collector events and contests. Unique collectible challenges allow collectors to win cards not found in packs and participate in digital crafting events, where common cards could be metamorphosed into exclusive numbered cards. Though this represents WWE’s recent venture into digital collectibles, it isn't their first experiment with NFTs, evident in their previous engagement in the NFT domain for several years. In 2021, as pointed out by Cointelegraph, WWE and John Cena unveiled a range of NFTs showcasing the renowned wrestler turned actor. Regrettably, the NFTs weren't particularly successful, recording only minimal sales of the mid-tier offering. The global wrestling community has warmed up to NFTs and digital collectibles in the past year. Despite being the world’s most recognized “sports entertainment” company, WWE saw its closest competitors, All Elite Wrestling (AEW) and Impact! Wrestling, roll out their own NFTs in 2023. Additionally, WWE operates its own NFT marketplace “Moonsault,” built on Eluv.io’s Content Fabric blockchain, though its sales in 2023 were undeniably slow. Panini and WWE hope for a better performance from the newly launched Donruss Elite blockchain cards. In his statement, Jason Howarth, Panini’s senior vice president of marketing and athlete relations, noted that the WWE’s “enthusiastic fans and deep-rooted history” align with expectations of the blockchain collectible audience. However, only time will tell if this collaboration brings significant success for both entities.
