OpenAI Empowers Users to Create Custom ChatGPT Transformers; Plans New GPT Store Launch
Summary:
OpenAI has announced a new feature in its AI system, ChatGPT, allowing users to create custom pre-trained transformers (GPTs). These GPTs enable users to design and task-handle ChatGPT applications without entering multiple commands. The initiative, currently for "ChatGPT Plus" and Enterprise subscribers, addresses users manually copying prompts and instruction sets into ChatGPT. Additionally, OpenAI plans to launch a unique store where developers can create and sell GPTs. Users can also publicly share their GPTs, and organizations can build internal GPTs for specific departments or employees.
In a recent blog post dated November 6, OpenAI has announced that the AI technology, ChatGPT, now provides users the ability to construct their unique pre-trained transformers or GPTs. This implies users can now design ChatGPT applications without having to enter a flurry of commands into the chat box to perform various tasks. Personalized versions of ChatGPT that can aid users in day-to-day activities, assigned tasks and manage work assignments can now be created and shared with others in a no-code environment.
OpenAI divulged in their post that several users would save text files that they utilized as guides for how ChatGPT reacted to prompts. These "power users" had to manually copy and paste these texts into the software's chat box each time it was launched before executing tasks. Launching GPTs was seen as a solution to this problem. GPTs now take care of these functions for these power users. This new feature, however, is exclusive to subscribers of the “ChatGPT Plus” and Enterprise subscription plans, without any free version available currently.
OpenAI also revealed plans to launch a new store for GPT later this month. The store will function like a mobile app store, enabling developers to build and sell GPTs. Only "verified builders" will be permitted to showcase GPTs on the store, with OpenAI having instituted "new systems" to secure user privacy and safety during the roll-out process.
Users also have the option to share their customized GPTs publicly, or enterprises can create specialized GPTs restricted for use within individual departments or by authorized employees. Firms like bio-tech corporation Amgen, management consulting firm Bain and payment processing company Square have already started using GPTs for designing marketing content, assisting customer service personnel, and onboarding new engineers.
ChatGPT, which boasts of over 180 million users according to SimilarWeb data cited by Reuters, has been competing with the likes of Google’s Bard and Anthropic's Claude 2. It was also announced recently by Elon Musk that he has built his AI chat program named “Grok.”
