Milady Creator Alleges Major Hack: Crypto Assets Worth Millions Transferred
Summary:
Krishna Okhandiar, also known as Charlotte Fang, creator of Remilia and Milady, alleges a significant hack that forced a transfer of vast amounts of Ether and NFTs to an asset-selling wallet. The exact method of the supposed hack remains unknown; however, it resulted in the selling of various Milady-linked NFTs and the transfer of approximately $1 million in Ether to a different account. The incident emphasizes the growing concern over security breaches and exploitations within the crypto industry, especially in DeFi applications.
Renowned as Charlotte Fang, Remilia and Milady's creator Krishna Okhandiar is reported to assert that they have been subjected to hacking. This followed the considerable movement of Ether and NFTs into a wallet noted for asset sales. The disclosure of the incident first came from a Dumpster DAO user known as X, who displayed a screenshot suggesting Okhandiar felt "robbed". This was associated with a link to an account that received assets from Remilia-affiliated wallets. Remilia, the DAO that instigated the Milady Maker NFT, reported a fiscal invasion through Bonkler, an innovative arts-based finance venture developed in April 2023.
Blockchain logs reveal the mentioned account has sold a variety of Milady-associated NFTs - including NFTx staked iterations, and transferred Ether equating to $1 million to a different account. As per the time of writing this report, the account continues to hold roughly $1 million in Ether and numerous separate tokens.
The specifics of the alleged hack remain undefined, but blockchain security firm Peckshield highlighted a previous transaction from the Remilia treasury account to the account involved in the pillage, as outlined in an X post.
Charlotte Fang, in September 2023, reported through X social network (Twitter's predecessor) that a Milady system developer had managed to redirect approximately $1 million in levied fees away from Remilia Incorporation. As per her statement, the culprit had successfully commandeered three X accounts, including Miladymaker and Remilionaire, while Remiliacorp was rendered inaccessible.
Introduced in 2021, Milady culminates in a compilation of 10,000 anime-themed profile image NFTs, created by Fang. In May 2023, Milady's NFTs received public support from Tesla's CEO Elon Musk, as he posted a meme featuring illustrations from the Milady NFT assortment. This provoked an abrupt increase in the base price of a Milady NFT, which subsequently escalated from 3.8 Ether (ETH) to 7.8 ETH.
Security breaches and manipulations have been increasingly worrying within the crypto sector, most importantly in DeFi apps. In 2023, $1.8 billion fell victim to crypto hacks and scam artists; 17% of which are credited to the North Korean Lazarus Group, as stated in Immunefi's report on December 28. Specifically, amongst ten individual events, in February 2024, over $65 million (97.54%) of pilfered funds were due to hacking.
