Michelle Bond Launches Crypto Think Tank Amidst Partner's Legal Woes

Algoine News
Summary:
Facing the impending imprisonment of her partner, Michelle Bond has initiated a crypto-centric think tank called Digital Future in Washington, DC. The organization is scheduled to focus on shaping a propitious regulatory framework for fintech, digital assets, and AI in the U.S. The launching coincides with Bond's previous association with the collapsed cryptocurrency exchange, FTX, and the legal charges her partner faces linked to her 2022 congressional campaign. The former FTX executive, Ryan Salame, was sentenced to 7.5 years in prison for illegal political contributions and running an unlicensed money transmission business. The think tank's inauguration timing is still unclear.
As her associate faces a 70-day countdown to imprisonment due to convictions connected to FTX's collapse, Michelle Bond unveiled a cryptocurrency academic organization in Washington, DC. On June 20, Bond communicated she was instrumental in establishing the Digital Future think tank. Bond's LinkedIn profile indicates this is one of her initial professional engagements following the demise of the FTX crypto exchange. The donations she received for her 2022 House of Representatives candidacy related to the company were included in the charges against her associate Ryan Salame, the ex-co-CEO of FTX Digital Markets. Bond stated the think tank will concentrate on fostering a supportive regulatory setting for fintech, digital assets, and artificial intelligence (AI) in the U.S. She further highlighted that there’s a dearth of substantial and impactful legislation touching on crypto and AI by U.S. lawmakers. Prior to FTX’s downfall, Bond was the Association of Digital Asset Markets’ CEO. Since 2023, she has been running Capitol Advisory, a consultation firm assisting fintech corporations with regulatory, legal, and public policy aspects, and served as a legal advisor for the U.S Senate Banking Committee in 2011-2012. Launch timing of the crypto academic organization remains uncertain. Less than five months are left before the U.S. presidential election, and numerous states stage their primaries in June. Attempts to reach Digital Future for their comments were unsuccessful at the press time. In September 2023, Salame confessed to devising illegal political donations and running an unlicensed money-transmission enterprise. In May, Salame, the former FTX executive, was handed a 7.5-year prison term by a federal judge. He is programmed to turn himself in on August 29. Salame's crimes were directly linked to Bond's congressional candidacy bid. Despite running as a Republican for New York’s 1st Congressional District in 2022, her campaign didn’t proceed past the party's primaries. The ex-FTX executive supposedly donated to Bond’s campaign on behalf of a business, an act that flouts U.S. law. After his sentencing, Salame reignited activity on his X account, commenting on the crypto arena and U.S. political prospect ahead of serving his prison term. He shares a seven-month-old child with Bond.
