Meta, the parent company of Facebook, has reportedly dismantled its Responsible AI unit, which was specifically created to oversee the safe development and deployment of its artificial intelligence projects. A report has indicated that various ex-employees of the disbanded team have now taken up positions within the company's Generative AI product division, as well as the AI Infrastructure team. Established in February, Meta's Generative AI squad has its focus set on creating products that can simulate human-generated language and visual content. This came as an industry wide effort to invest in machine learning technology, to keep up with the escalating advancements in AI. Meta, like other tech giants, is striving to keep pace with the rapid proliferation of AI. This administrative shuffle within Meta's AI teams occurs as the company draws closer to the close of what CEO Mark Zuckerberg referred to as its "year of efficiency" during an earnings call in February. This period has witnessed a series of layoffs, team consolidations and redeployments within the company. In recent times, ensuring AI safety has emerged as a topmost concern, particularly with industry regulators and officials scrutinizing the potential hazards that may come with this budding technology. In response to this, an industry consortium inclusive of Google, Microsoft, OpenAI and Anthropic was formed in July, with a specific aim of establishing safety norms for advancing AI. The report further revealed that, despite their relocation within the company, ex-RAI employees remain devoted to ethical AI development and usage, highlighting a continuous investment strategy in this aspect. Meta has recently launched a pair of AI-powered generative models. The first, Emu Video, employs previous Emu model's merits to generate video clips using text and image commands. The second, Emu Edit, focuses on image alteration, boasting an improved precision for image editing tasks. At the moment, Meta has not yet provided any feedback in response to Cointelegraph's request for additional details regarding this matter.
