Manchester City, a renowned club in the Premier League, has launched a multi-year collaboration with Animoca Brands' subsidiary, Quidd. The joint effort aims to develop digital collectibles and new promotions and fan adventures. In this partnership, Quidd will design and release special digital collectables such as unique cards that would lead to real-life experiences. Tom Boyle, the Vice-President of Global Partnerships Marketing and Operations at City Football Group, attributed this collaboration as an innovative move to remix traditional football pastimes, like cards collectibles, for the digital-age fanbase. He shared his enthusiasm for creating a wider global connection and the new digital games and experiences that fans are sure to enjoy.
Animoca Brands has also raised $5M for its NFT marketplace, Quidd. The collaboration's introduction product is a set of 200 distinct digital player cards, scheduled for release or purchase on May 2. The first 10,000 Cityzens, a friendly term for Manchester City supporters, to acquire packs will get exclusive fan packs. Additionally, Cityzens can qualify for real-life experiences and shopping options, including official Manchester City merchandise and hospitality tickets, by unlocking digital rewards from the Quidd packs.
As per recent reports by Cointelegraph, Manchester City has been proactive in the NFT market, debuting its "Unseen City Shirts" NFT collection on the OKX blockchain on April 22. A finite number of these NFTs connect to physical limited-edition jerseys that feature hand-painted artwork. In 2022, the club also joined forces with Sony to construct a virtual replica of Etihad Stadium, their iconic home field, claimed to be the premier fully-licensed football stadium in the metaverse. Other clubs are also exploring cryptocurrency for their future prospects.
For instance, the Winklevoss twins have recently invested $4.5 million in Peter McCormack's Real Bedford Football Club's Bitcoin treasury, exhibiting confidence in both Bitcoin and the club's potential Premier League elevation.
