Algoine News
Summary:
Former Bitmain CEO Jihan Wu is set to take over as CEO of cryptocurrency mining company Bitdeer from March 1, following the transition of current CEO Linghui Kong to the role of chief business officer. The changes are designed to enable the fullest exploitation of emerging strategic opportunities in the field, according to Wu. Prior to this, Wu founded Matrixport, a cryptocurrency financial services firm, and was involved in leadership disputes at Bitmain, the company he co-founded, before officially parting ways in 2021.
Jihan Wu, the former CEO of Bitmain, is set to take the helm as CEO at cryptocurrency mining firm, Bitdeer, while Linghui Kong takes a step back into the role of the firm's chief business officer. This new arrangement, announced by Bitdeer on January 29, sees Wu transition from his position as the chair of the company's board of directors to CEO effective from March 1. Wu established the cryptocurrency mining enterprise in 2020 following his exit from Bitmain, the mining chip manufacturing entity he co-established with Micree Zhan in 2013. The reshuffle in leadership, according to Wu, aims to utilise efficiently his and Kong's high-level expertise, enabling the full exploitation of newly emerging strategic growth opportunities. Kong had formerly taken the reins as CEO since January 2021. Wu also founded Matrixport, a cryptocurrency financial services company, which drew industry attention in January following the company's analysts conjecture regarding the potential non-approval of spot Bitcoin (BTC) exchange-traded funds by the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). However, contrary to their forecast, the SEC gave approval for these offerings on January 10. Prior to Wu parting ways with Bitmain, he had been embroiled in leadership disputes with Zhan, which included lawsuits and an alleged raid on the company's office in Beijing. Wu officially announced his departure from Bitmain and relinquished his CEO role in 2021.
