Algoine News
Summary:
Indonesian vice presidential candidate and current Surakarta Mayor, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, pledges to boost Indonesia's digital capabilities, focusing specifically on blockchain and cryptocurrency. The plan aims to provide youth with new opportunities in these emerging sectors. Despite prior crackdowns on crypto transactions, Indonesia plans to delve deeper into crypto technology in 2023. The country has recently launched its national crypto exchange, marking a notable turn towards digital currency.
In his bid for vice presidency, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, currently serving as Surakarta's mayor, is advocating for Indonesia's rise in the digital world by nurturing capabilities in blockchain and cryptocurrency, providing the country's young professionals with a chance to forge a path in these emerging fields. During a recent political gathering, Gibran advocated for the cultivation of future talents versed in the skills integral to this digital shift, which notably includes blockchain and crypto expertise. His ambition does not halt there - he foresees developing talents in the domain of digital marketing and artificial intelligence. Being the firstborn of the incumbent Indonesian president, Joko Widodo, Gibran was elected to accompany Prabowo Subianto, the current defense minister and presidential candidate, on Oct. 23. The 36-year-old's candidature for vice presidency will be put to the test in the national elections set for Feb. 14, 2024. Although previously outlawing crypto transactions, Indonesia is bracing for a stride into crypto technology in 2023, fortifying its positioning as a promising territory for Web3 technology. Earlier instances of the government's stern stance against this digital currency surfaced on May 28, when tourists involved with crypto transactions were warned of severe repercussions, including potential deportation or criminal charges. Despite such constraints, on July 21, Indonesia inaugurated its national crypto exchange, an initiative supervised by local authorities. This exchange stands alone as the sole authorized platform in Indonesia, where the legal swapping of digital assets can occur.
