The bureau's head, Tirta Karma Senjaya, emphasized that the request arises as crypto continues to weave itself into Indonesia's broader economic fabric.
He believes that cryptocurrencies will soon become an integral component of the financial sector and thereby, seeks the Tax Directorate General's initiative in reevaluating these charges. The report also disclosed that, as of January 2024, the government had raised approximately USD 2.49 million from cryptocurrency transaction taxes.
Despite these taxes being in place for nearly two years now, Senjaya opines they ought to be annually reassessed just like any other tax regulations. Relevant data revealed an 11% surge in the number of crypto owners from 2021’s 11.2 million to 12.4 million.
