Algoine News
Summary:
The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) will issue NFT train tickets for two specific Delhi-bound trains to celebrate the Hindu festival, Holi. Passengers on the newly introduced semi-high-speed Tejas Express 82501 and 82502 will receive their tickets as NFTs, verifiable on the blockchain. This effort aims to elevate passengers' travel experiences and is supported by a digitization platform, NFTtrace, which will oversee the recording of purchases on the Hyperledger blockchain. The move is expected to curb forgery and ticket losses while promoting NFT uptake within the country.
The Indian Railways is set to issue nonfungible token (NFT) train tickets for two specific trains heading to Delhi from March 20th to April 2nd, in celebration of the Hindu festival, Holi. The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) revealed that passengers on the newly introduced semi-high-speed Tejas Express trains numbered 82501 and 82502 will receive their train tickets as NFTs. According to an official statement by IRCTC, these tickets are more than just digital keepsakes; they honor the cultural heritage of Lucknow and Delhi. Through NFT train tickets, India hopes to elevate the travel experiences of its passengers, allowing them to customize NFTs that can be verified on the blockchain by both officials and the wider public. The IRCTC portal enables travelers to confirm their ticket purchases on the blockchain. This innovation is a salute to Holi, commonly referred to as the festivity of colors, and is ably supported by a digitization platform: NFTtrace. NFTtrace will oversee the recording of train ticket purchases on the Hyperledger blockchain and will utilize smart contracts to supervise the traceability process. India's Railway corporation facilitates the booking of over 1.2 million tickets daily via IRCTC, and widespread use of NFT ticketing could substantially promote NFT uptake if this becomes the norm for all trains. Digitizing tickets using NFT technology could also minimize commonly experienced problems such as forgery and ticket losses. India primarily employs three blockchain platforms in the creation of its products - Hyperledger Fabric, Hyperledger Sawtooth, and Ethereum. On March 6, news surfaced that approximately eight million government-backed verifiable certificates are presently hosted across five blockchain platforms managed by India’s National Informatics Centre (NIC), a governmental organization. India currently uses five blockchain products: Certificate chain, document chain, drug logistics chain, judiciary chain, and property chain.
