Indian Authorities Upskill in Crypto Forensics; Hindustan Petroleum Leverages Blockchain
Summary:
India's Ministry of Home Affairs reveals that personnel from different cybercrime and police departments were trained in cryptocurrency forensics, darknet investigations, and emerging tech in fiscal year 2022-2023. As India anticipates possible crypto-related crimes due to increasing adoption, it also explores blockchain's mainstream uses. Hindustan Petroleum recently launched a blockchain system for auto-verification of POs, partnering with Zupple Labs to integrate blockchain-based digital credentialing technology.
India's Home Affairs Ministry's yearly report stated that for the 2022–2023 fiscal year, cryptocurrency forensics and investigation training was given to personnel from different cybercrime and police branches. It was noted that 141 officials were trained in the intricacies of darknet and cryptocurrency investigations by the Narcotics Control Bureau, the nation's leading law enforcement and intelligence organization. This training also covered the analysis of digital traces, collecting information and evidence from open sources and social platforms, among other subjects.
Moreover, in matters of crypto forensics and investigation as well as other cutting-edge technologies — like stealth networks and illicit usage of mobile applications on the internet — over 2,800 cyber police officials obtained training from the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre.
In relation to this, while preparing for potential offenses linked to cryptocurrencies as their use increases, India is concurrently looking into mainstream blockchain applications. Notably, Hindustan Petroleum (HPCL), the government-operated oil and gas enterprise, has recently initiated a blockchain system to facilitate automatic verification of purchase orders (POs).
In making this a reality, HPCL collaborated with Zupple Labs, a blockchain software company, to incorporate its digital credentialing technology based on the blockchain into the PO system. An HPCL representative mentioned to Cointelegraph that this arrangement aids in automating the verification of HPCL POs directed at third parties. "Through integrating the blockchain system with HPCL’s in-house e-PO, unalterable verifiable POs are produced," the spokesperson explained.
In a magazine exclusive, it was revealed that two years after the demise of John McAfee, his widow Janice is financially distressed and seeking answers.
