Immutable Plans Gas Fee Elimination for Gamers With 2024 zkEVM Launch

Algoine News
Summary:
Web3 gaming firm Immutable plans to eradicate gas fees for its gamers with the 2024 launch of its unique zero-knowledge proof-based platform, Immutable zkEVM. This move will enable the developers of blockchain-based games to remove transaction costs for the end-user. In addition to providing a smoother gaming experience, Immutable intends to cover the gas fees for all games within its ecosystem for a limited period following the platform's launch. The firm expects this shift to enhance player adoption and boost studios' revenues.
Web3 gaming company Immutable plans to eliminate gas fees for gamers when its bespoke zero-knowledge proof-based (ZK-proofs) scaling platform launches in early 2024. Immutable zkEVM empowers developers of blockchain-based games to eliminate transaction costs for users, promising a seamless entry experience for gamers. Gas fees, charged to network validators for transaction processing, are typically a requirement for Web3 games built on blockchain protocols. Prior to layer-2 scaling protocols, Ethereum-focused decentralized applications (DApps) as well as services primarily depended on validators and miners to manage smart contract operations and their related transactions. Immutable's CTO, Alex Connolly, highlighted in a statement provided to Cointelegraph, that for Web3 games to remain user-friendly and unnoticeable to mainstream audience, the elimination of gas fees, an aspect often unaccepted by traditional gamers, is crucial. Connolly added that gas fees are often a barrier when incorporating digital asset ownership into games, thus making Immutable's zkEVM an enticing prospect for the future Web3 gaming. Game developers will have the opportunity to shoulder gas fee payments via the Immutable zkEVM, therefore negating these costs for users of Immutable Passport. As part of its mainnet launch, there are also plans by Immutable to cover gas fees for all games within its ecosystem for a short period. Immutable estimates that for every 100,000 gamers, game studios can anticipate gas fees between $500 and $1000. Connolly suggests that gas sponsorship may boost player adoption and revenues for game studios, and these expenses could potentially become comparable to infrastructure or server costs in the future. In an announcement made on August 14, Immutable stated that its zkEVM will offer game developers lower developmental costs while also providing the security benefits and network impacts associated with the Ethereum ecosystem. Further, Robbie Ferguson, the company's co-founder and president, mentioned in March that the aim of zkEVM is to enhance ownership rights for Web3 gamers. Over 20 gaming studios, including GameStop, TokenTrove marketplace, Kongregate, and iLogos, have pledged support for the beta launch.
