HyperPlay Integrates Wallet Overlay with MetaMask Snaps for Enhanced In-Game Blockchain Transactions
Summary:
HyperPlay, a PC game launcher, has integrated its wallet overlay with MetaMask Snaps, enabling gamers to use custom wallet applications within their games. The overlay allows blockchain gamers to approve transactions within games without using a browser wallet. The integration unlocks many new features, enabling blockchains that couldn't previously push transactions to the wallet to do so. The update also allows players to install snaps that set spending limits for games, enhancing convenience and security.
HyperPlay, a PC game launcher, has successfully integrated its wallet overlay with MetaMask Snaps, enabling gamer access to customized wallet applications within their gaming environment, as announced on Dec. 19. HyperPlay, which functions in a similar capacity to Steam, the Epic Games Store, and GoG (previously known as Good Old Games), uniquely incorporates a built-in version of the Web3 wallet MetaMask, presented as an overlay by the launcher’s developers. This innovation facilitates blockchain gamers to approve in-game transactions without the need for a separate browser wallet. HyperPlay's overlay was originally incompatible with MetaMask Snaps - a feature permitting third-party developers to create apps running within MetaMask, which premiered on Sept. 12. However, the newly announced software upgrade by HyperPlay ensures the full integration of these two features.
According to a Cointelegraph interview with HyperPlay's founder, JacobC.eth, this innovatory integration promises a spectrum of new features. Chief among these is the opportunity for numerous blockchains, previously unable to direct transactions to the wallet, to now achieve this function: "The most conspicuous and immediate interpretation is the capability for players to utilize their wallets with custom-made blockchains...This will certainly broaden the variety of games where players can deploy their interoperable wallet."
As a prime example, JacobC.eth referred to Bushi – a popular third-person shooter with in-game items located on the Sui blockchain. The Sui blockchain, which isn't compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), didn't initially allow users to authenticate transactions from within the overlay. The recent upgrade now enables a snap to be installed, making the blockchain accessible, and encouraging players during their initial transaction attempt.
JacobC.eth believes that the snaps-compatible overlay holds further potential for gamers. For instance, players will be able to install snaps that allow them to set spending limits for games, enhancing the convenience and usability of games triggering numerous transactions. Meanwhile, individual spending limits will ensure that gamers do not place undue trust in their game with their funds.
Back in June, HyperPlay attracted over $12 million in a Series A funding round and boasted a portfolio of 33 titles. It also allows gamers to merge their GoG and Epic Games accounts into their interface.
