Summary:
AI startup Humane has introduced AI Pin, a wearable AI virtual assistant. The lapel pin-shaped device uses technology from OpenAI and Microsoft, offering various features like crafting messages in users' voice, sorting emails, providing music experiences, acting as a language interpreter, supporting nutrition goals, and integrating AI-powered photography. Humane is also launching wireless services for the AI Pin through its own MVNO connected by T-Mobile. The device is available in the US starting at $699 with a monthly subscription of $24.
On November 10, artificial intelligence firm Humane introduced AI Pin, a wearable device with AI-oriented functionalities. This lapel pin-like gadget, powered by technology from OpenAI, creators of the renowned ChatGPT chatbot, and armed with Microsoft's cloud computing tech, serves as a mobile AI sidekick. With an inbuilt touchpad, this device responds to object detection, gestures, and visual displays projected onto the user's hand. Humane's offering promises the ability to draft messages mirroring users' speaking style, organise emails, deliver AI-curated music experiences, and includes an AI-operated photography function. Furthermore, itβs positioned as a foreign language translator and a dietary assistant, recognising food via computer vision.
Humane's co-founders Imran Chaudhri and Bethany Bongiorno said: "AI Pin is the materialisation of our aim to weave AI into our daily existence, boosting our abilities without overshadowing our humanness." Humane is also setting up its MVNO, connected by T-Mobile, offering wireless service to the AI Pin.
The gadget, starting at $699 for the entire setup plus a monthly subscription of $24 including phone number provision and cell services, is available for order in the US from November 16. Humane, started by former Apple employees involved in iPhone creation, has earned $241 million in investments from significant industry figures like Sam Altman, OpenAI's CEO, and Microsoft. The unveiling of AI Pin follows several rapidly progressing events in the AI realm in the past week. Elon Musk's AI firm xAI, for instance, launched the Grok chatbot on November 5, claiming its superiority to ChatGPT, widely known as one of the world's most advanced chatbots. The day after, OpenAI revealed new ChatGPT functionalities enabling subscribers to create bespoke GPTs.
