The Hedera Council, which oversees the functions of the Hedera network, approved the allocation of 4.86 billion HBAR— the native digital token of Hedera Hashgraph, to facilitate further growth and foster decentralized self-rule. Revealed in a blog post, the decision to assign 4.86 billion HBARs ($408.2 million) focuses on enhancing the Hedera network. Of this number, a major portion, 4.248 billion HBARs, is earmarked for ongoing projects, such as the HBAR Foundation, Hashgraph Association, and DLT Science Foundation. This move upholds Hedera's commitment to solidifying its base after its notable 2023 performance, which witnessed more than 33 billion real-life transactions on its platform. Aside from fostering ecosystem expansion, a designated portion of the assigned HBARs, adding up to 614.06 million, will be utilized for Hedera Council's operational expenditures and to remunerate early Simple Agreement for Future Tokens (SAFT) investors. On January 12, 2024, the Hedera Council declared its decision to endorse the allocation of an additional 4.86 billion HBARs for the purpose of advancing the Hedera network and facilitating its decentralized administration. Betsabe Botaitis, the Chief Financial Officer at the Council, revealed that the grants for the HBAR Foundation and Hashgraph Association are prepared for release within the first quarter, while the DLT Science Foundation will receive its grants upon reaching key yearly milestones. Botaitis emphasized the fundamental role of ecosystem partners in augmenting the swift adoption of Hedera. As a testament to their commitment, the HBAR Foundation and Algorand Foundation announced the formation of the DeRec Alliance on January 11. Prominent members of the Hedera and Algorand ecosystems solidified this alliance with a common goal to devise a decentralized recovery system for digital resources. Leaders from the two decentralized finance (DeFi) entities stated that the DeRec Alliance is geared towards simplifying the procedures for securing and recuperating digital resources, thereby aligning with traditional Web2 practices.
