Google's Gemini AI Receives Updates Amid Controversy Over Inaccurate Imagery

Algoine News
Summary:
Google has introduced two updates to its AI model, Gemini, amid social media backlash over inaccurate and "woke" image outputs. The changes allow Python code editing and execution in the user interface, and provide access to Google's leading model, 1.0 Ultra, for business and enterprise subscribers. The updates also address data security concerns by ensuring conversations are not used for training. However, controversies regarding the inaccurate depiction of history in Gemini's image outputs remain unaddressed. These inaccuracies sparked outrage among social media users, with one purported Google developer expressing deep embarrassment. The issue has also been identified in OpenAI's chatbot, ChatGPT, leading to online calls for scrutiny.
In the face of widespread social media backlash over the inaccurate and "woke" imagery generated by its AI model Gemini, Google has rolled out two updates. These modifications were implemented on the 20th and 21st of February. The predecessor update, geared towards Gemini Advanced, allows it to edit Python code snippets and execute them in its user interface, saving users time and assuring the functionality of the code before it's copied. The second update, aimed at Gemini business and enterprise subscribers, offers access to the cutting-edge 1.0 Ultra, Google's foremost model, incorporating top-tier data safeguard mechanisms. This ensures Gemini no longer uses conversation data for training, relieving a chief concern for big corporations, including mobile services giant Samsung. In May 2023, Samsung prohibited employees from employing AI tools resembling ChatGPT on company-owned devices and internal networks. This pair of updates builds on an earlier one from February 8, during which Google renamed its chatbot from Bard to Gemini, integrating a host of enhanced features. However, neither update has addressed the controversy around Gemini's image output, which recently sparked social media outrage due to the inaccurate historical portrayals it produced. Google Gemini AI's developer, Jack Krawczyk, acknowledged the issues with the image generation inaccuracies and said the team is striving to implement remedies swiftly. However, Gemini's image anomalies have been a source of discontent among social media users, one of whom โ€” supposedly a Google developer โ€” expressed profound embarrassment to be associated with the company. Additionally, another user highlighted a similar issue with widely-used AI chatbot ChatGPT, developed by OpenAI, asking why it has escaped online scrutiny for creating biased images. In reply, Elon Musk emphasized the significance of his own AI model, Grok', hinting at an enhanced version to be rolled out within weeks. However, Grok' has attracted attention because of its name, which is strikingly similar to the Groq AI language processing unit (LPU) chip, a trademarked item designed in 2016. The latter gained internet fame after its initial public benchmark tests showed performance surpassing models from other leading tech firms.
