Fraudulent Rabby Wallet App on Apple Store Dupes Users of Thousands

Algoine News
Summary:
A fraudulent version of the Rabby Wallet crypto app has reportedly been causing issues on the Apple App Store. Although DeBank's Rabby Wallet team confirmed that any currently listed apps are fake, the counterfeit app still remains on the store despite numerous user reports. The imitation app has resulted in significant losses for users, with one user even losing around $5,000. The incident marks a reoccurrence of false Rabby Wallet apps appearing on the App Store, with similar predatory apps also previously found.
An allegedly fraudulent version of Rubby Wallet, a crypto wallet application, available on Apple's App Store has reportedly been causing major issues for unauthorized users. On February 16, DeBank's Rubby Wallet verified that any of their apps presently available on the platform are counterfeit, as their official app is still awaiting approval. The fraudulent app, condemned to be deceptive, appears on the App Store titled "Rabby Wallet & Crypto Solution," allegedly developed by a firm named "Solution Development" and has reportedly been listed for at least four days despite user reports. A concerned individual, with the alias 'manolodf' initiated a discussion on Reddit on February 18 to alert others of the counterfeit wallet application. Screenshots of interactions with the malicious app, lost funds and user discussions were protected in the same thread on an Apple discussion forum. Questions about how such an unauthentic Crypto Wallet could be allowed on the App store, cheating users by passing off as a genuine one, were raised by forum members. One unfortunate user claimed they were defrauded out of around $5,000 due to the deceptive app. A request was made to Apple Support for possible reimbursement, citing that the app had been previously reported multiple times. Another user claimed a 10% portfolio loss as a result of downloading the fake Rabby_io application from the Apple store. Yet another distressed user, known as 'bthemouth,' reported that their wallets were emptied by the counterfeit Rabby app once their seed phrase was imported. The individual shared an address alleged to belong to the fraudster, which held just under 14 ETH, worth approximately $40,000. This instance of app store infiltration is not an isolated one. A bogus version of Rubby Wallet had previously been spotted on the App Store in October of the previous year, and again in December. In another related event on February 14, it was revealed that a counterfeit Curve Finance app had been listed on the Apple App Store. Furthermore, in November of the previous year, a fake Ledger Live app had siphoned close to $600,000, as reported by Cointelegraph, infiltrating Microsoft's app store.
