As a major international soccer governing body, Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), is getting ready to introduce its unique nonfungible tokens (NFT) collection, coinciding with the 2023 Club World Cup event being held in Saudi Arabia. Teaming up with blockchain company Modex, FIFA's inaugural collection of 100 NFTs will launch on December 15, with the possibility of winning final tickets for the FIFA World Cup 2026. Furthermore, in December, 900 additional digital memorabilia items will be released on the Polygon network (MATIC) and OpenSea, capturing moments from the current tournament and digital remakes of collectible items. On December 12, the FIFA Club World Cup kicks off in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, featuring seven top global soccer teams, including champions from all of FIFA's six confederations. These NFTs will be accessible through FIFA's dedicated platform, FIFA+ Collect, which was introduced in September 2022 and uses Algorand technology. Modex CEO Francesco Abbate lauds this integration of digital collectibles as a way for fans to engage more with their beloved players, teams and sport. Since its set-up, the FIFA+ Collect platform has overseen 11 NFT drops, distributed a total of 909,255 digital items to 16,448 recipients, generating a total trading volume of $2.4 million across the primary and secondary NFT markets. However, care must be taken, as FIFA+ Collect Info notes that the "Mint Volume" can be distorted, as it does not differentiate between packs bought with USDC [USD Coin] and those received as free challenge rewards.
