An ex-employee of the memecoin trading platform pump.fun has reportedly been arrested, charged and is currently out on bail in the UK, after being accused of a $1.9 million hack. In a statement made on May 16th, the ex-employee, known online as "STACCoverflow", but otherwise identified as Jarett Dunn, confessed to the cyber-attack. Pump.fun alleges the exploit was made possible through a "privileged position" and by manipulating a "withdraw authority", compromising its systems.
Dunn published a series of posts on May 18th under an alternate online account, indicating that he was taken into custody overnight. He was accused by the pump.fun team of stealing near $2 million and conspiring to pilfer an additional $80 million. He was then released on bail and placed under mental health observation. Dunn is currently in a hospital and communicating through a provided iPad. His fitness to be interrogated by police is currently in doubt due to his mental health.
The Canadian national stated that local embassy staff provided his family with a list of legal representatives, but he is unable to converse with them until his personal devices, of which 60% are currently impounded, are returned to him. Dunn divulged that his passport remains in his possession, with no prohibitions against him leaving the country.
According to a message delivered to another online user, The Rollup, Dunn is mandated to report back to a police station on August 15th. The same account alleges that a private investigator was hired to locate Dunn in the UK's capital, London.
In a separate online post, Dunn encouraged UK residents to lodge a complaint against a local business he holds claims is affiliated with pump.fun. His conditions of bail forbid him from making any contact with this company or its leader. Neither pump.fun nor the private investigative firm reportedly involved in finding Dunn have provided a comment upon request.
