Elon Musk Unveils Enhanced Prototype of Tesla's Humanoid Robot, Optimus

Algoine News
Summary:
Tesla's CEO, Elon Musk, unveils a more advanced prototype of Tesla's humanoid robot, Optimus. The new model is lighter, faster, and features improved balance and better movement control. Additionally, it possesses advanced tactile sensing capabilities. Musk continues to advocate for stronger regulatory oversight of artificial intelligence.
Elon Musk, the chief executive of Tesla and the executive chair of X (formerly known as Twitter), has showcased a new version of Tesla's humanoid robot, Optimus. The recent prototype has become more streamlined and agile compared to its forerunners. Musk posted a video presentation of the second-generation Optimus on his X (previously Twitter) account on December 13. As per the clip, the evolved version of the robot is 22 pounds lighter than its predecessor, Optimus Gen 1. The design of the robot's feet echoes the human anatomy, enhancing the robot's balance and complete movement control. The second-generation Optimus performs several squats in the clip to emphasize this. The model also has tactile sensing capabilities on all of its digits, enabling it to handle fragile objects. This was exhibited when the robot gently picked up an egg and then gently put it back down. Tesla's first Optimus prototype made its debut in 2022. The early model could just about walk forward, and the internals were on display. The following model needed help from the personnel to keep itself upright. In 2023, Musk released a clip showcasing the latest robot generation, which could manage to move freely and transfer certain objects from one receptacle to another. Musk has consistently advocated for increased regulatory scrutiny of artificial intelligence (AI). He asserts that AI may eventually be "smarter than all humans in every aspect." In December, the businessman put forth some of his most daring assertions, contending that a "digital god" will render copyright lawsuits regarding AI irrelevant. Musk had earlier suggested that artificial general intelligence (AGI) may appear before the year 2030, a projection disputed by numerous industry experts as overly hopeful.
