Elon Musk's AI Venture xAI Launches 'Grok', a New AI Chatbot Excelling in Real-Time Engagement
Summary:
Elon Musk's AI startup, xAI, introduces Grok, a chatbot capable of real-time knowledge engagement through the X platform. Claimed to outperform OpenAI's initial ChatGPT in academic tests, Grok is designed to respond with wit, even handling spicy questions commonly avoided by other AI systems. Available in X Premium+ for $16 per month, it is currently limited to selected users in the US. xAI intends to ensure Grok is not used maliciously and remains a force for good.
Elon Musk, along with his artificial intelligence venture xAI, has unveiled a new AI chatbot called “Grok.” It claims to surpass OpenAI’s ChatGPT's initial version in various scholarly evaluations. Devising Gruk is driven by the aspiration to yield AI resources that can aid human beings by fostering research and progress, according to a statement by Musk and xAI on Nov. 5 on X, previously Twitter.
The makers of Grok state that one of its principal distinguishing features is its capacity to perceive the world in real-time through the X platform. "This chatbot is even geared to tackle provocative queries usually avoided by conventional AI systems," added xAI. Grok presents responses ladened with wit, blending humor with a pinch of ropugnance in its approach. xAI cautioned though that it might not sit well with those with no fondness for humor.
Grok-1, the engine that drives Grok, underwent a series of scholarly examinations in math and programming. The results showed it excelling beyond the performance of ChatGPT-3.5 in all respective tests, mentioned in the data circulated by xAI. It did fall short, however, when compared to OpenAI’s most sophisticated version, GPT-4.
The makers further stated, "Only models drawing from substantial quantities of training data and computing amenities like the GPT-4, overtake Grok. This goes to highlight the leaps we at xAI are making towards training LLMs with supreme efficiency."
The plan is to include Grok in X Premium+ at a cost of $16 monthly. For the moment, it is only available to a select number of American users. The team at xAI stressed that Grok is early in its beta stage, with weekly improvements anticipated.
As for safety measures, xAI attests that they aim to put in place multiple precautions to prevent Grok from being misused. Their team ultimately stresses the role of AI as an instrument for scientific and economic contributions to society and will proceed with the development of reliable protective measures against potentially harmful uses. They insisted that they are committed to having AI continue as a tool for good.
The launch of Grok comes 8 months subsequent to Musk's establishment of the company in March.
