The Ministry of Education in El Salvador has partnered with the non-profit organization Mi Primer Bitcoin/My First Bitcoin (MPB/MFB) to incorporate Bitcoin education into the public school curriculum by 2024. MPB founder John Dennehy confirmed that they are assisting the Ministry of Education with this project, alongside Bitcoin Beach. The program "My First Bitcoin" will serve as a primary source material for the Bitcoin education, and students will receive a diploma upon completion.
Training for the pilot program will commence on September 7, with support from Bitcoin Beach. The program aims to provide 150 public school teachers from 75 schools with a basic knowledge of Bitcoin. Dennehy emphasized that as the first country to adopt Bitcoin, El Salvador wants to set a positive example for the world, and quality education plays a crucial role in achieving this.
After receiving the initial training, the teachers will return to their respective schools and teach from the curriculum provided by the Ministry of Education. If successful, the program will be expanded to all schools in the country next year. Dennehy expressed his excitement, stating that this is a significant step towards the goal of educating the entire nation about Bitcoin.
In an interview with Bitcoin Beach, community leader Roman Martínez shared that over 25,000 students in El Salvador have already learned about Bitcoin in their classrooms. Dennehy revealed that MPB's mission extends beyond El Salvador, aiming to bring Bitcoin education to the world. He mentioned that they are in early discussions with two other governments in Latin America interested in implementing a similar Bitcoin education program for their students.
Bitcoin Cuba also joined the movement, announcing the opening of sign-ups for the first edition of their own version of Mi Primer Bitcoin/My First Bitcoin (MFB) on September 4. The initiative aims to educate individuals about Bitcoin and its potential benefits.
