Donald Trump Sounds Alarm on AI; Calls It 'Most Potent Risk' with 'No Straightforward Solution'

Algoine News
Summary:
Former US President Donald Trump has raised concerns about artificial intelligence (AI) in a recent interview, calling it "the most potent risk" with "no straightforward solution". He mentioned the potential misuse of AI for warfare and cited deepfakes as a massive problem. He also suggested that AI might have been behind a recent incident where he appeared to have red blotches on his hands. These comments precede the airing of a larger interview on Maria Bartiromo's Sunday Morning Futures show on Fox Business.
Ex-president and present Republican leader, Donald Trump, has aired his apprehensions about artificial intelligence (AI) in a recent interview with Fox Business' Maria Bartiromo. During the conversation, he termed AI as "the most potent risk" and cautioned that "there's no straightforward solution". The revelation came as a sneak peak preview for an upcoming section on Maria Bartiromo’s Sunday Morning Futures show on Fox Business, set to be broadcasted on February 4. Discussing the perils of AI, Trump mentioned AI to be one of the most significant threats Americans presently encounter. He stated, "The other aspect, likely the most menacing thing out there, mainly because there’s no immediate remedy — AI. It's truly frightening." He raised alarms that AI could potentially be manipulated for war, persisting that "there has to be a solution to this and it has to be executed promptly." The ex-president also discussed deepfakes — a subset of AI that replicates or mimics humans — describing it as a "massive issue" that even experts are struggling to solve. He said, "Just the other day, I observed someone impersonating me to promote their product. I was like, ‘I would never endorse such a product.’ It's nearly impossible to distinguish. It appears as if I'm actually supporting it." This revelation follows an event where recorded images seemed to show Trump with red blotches on his hands. While the spots seemed to be blood, purportedly caused by a papercut, the ex-president informed Fox News' Mark Meredith on January 31 that the spots might have been a result of AI interference. The use of AI deepfakes to mislead voters and politicians in the run-up to the 2024 US elections has already been reported. "I thought it was real," said Trump.
