Domo Criticizes UniSat Wallet's Proposed Fork, Highlighting Risks of Rushed BRC-20 Updates

Algoine News
Summary:
Domo, the creator of the Bitcoin BRC-20 token standard, voiced his opposition to a proposed fork by UniSat Wallet, citing concerns over rushed updates affecting the user community. UniSat clarified its fork as a "split" between BRC-20 version 0.9 assets and the Ordinals Jubilee upgrade, both staying on the same physical blockchain. The increasing complexities of integrating new updates and the subsequent implications were highlighted by Domo. The BRC-20 token standard, spurred by the Bitcoin Ordinals system, now has a joint market capitalization of $1.76 billion.
On the second day of the year, Domo, the brainchild behind the Bitcoin BRC-20 token model and an active participant on the X platform (previously known as Twitter), expressed his opposition to the imminent fork suggested by UniSat Wallet. Domo put forward his belief that rapidly integrating these updates into the BRC20 protocol was a risky move. He argued it undermines their fellow indexers and might have adverse effects on the large BRC20 user community. Domo next focused on recent glitches in the Ordinals 0.8 and 0.9 updates, citing them as evidence of the mounting difficulties in assimilating novice updates into the BRC-20 standard. He insinuated that such modifications might not be secure to incorporate without extensive testing, coordination, and validation infrastructures that are currently under construction. The outspoken creator also insinuated that UniSat's fork proposition is part of a deliberate, ongoing effort to wrest control of the protocol. UniSat, in response, clarified that its planned "fork" is more accurately described as a "split". This split separates BRC-20 version 0.9 assets from the oncoming Ordinals Jubilee upgrade but maintains them on the same physical blockchain under diverse regulations. The developers assured that UniSat would adhere to the Ordinals Jubilee upgrade to verify that the BRC-20 stays on Ordinals without becoming a solitary protocol. They also hinted at a fresh whitepaper, releasing at the end of the month, outlining protocol improvements. BRC20 tokens have skyrocketed in popularity, marking one of the most significant technological leaps in the history of Bitcoin. Through the Bitcoin Ordinals system, unique numbers are allocated to each satoshi or each 1/100 millionth of a Bitcoin, facilitating tracking and transfer. Alongside the inscription process that adds data to every Satoshi, users can produce original digital assets on the Bitcoin blockchain. The Bitcoin Ordinals system, created by developer Casey Rodarmor in January 2023, triggered the emergence of the BRC-20 token standard designed by Domo in March 2023. Presently, BRC-20 tokens have a cumulative market capitalization of $1.76 billion.
