A deceptive deepfake video of Ripple's CEO, Brad Garlinghouse, is circulating on the internet, according to Reddit users. A deepfake video has caught the attention of Reddit members in which a digital imitation of Brad Garlinghouse, Ripple's CEO, is seen making an implausible request to XRP holders. This involves sending their coins to a specific digital wallet with the assurance of receiving twice the quantity in return, a deception technique often adopted by online swindlers. As per reports by Reddit commentators in the thread, evidence of this misleading advert initially emerged on YouTube around November 25 and December 3 - which was also duly noted and flagged by others on the forum. Snapshot of a concealed YouTube ad video As portrayed in the video, a computer-generated version of Garlinghouse invites the audience to be part of an XRP function by transferring their tokens to an exclusive "designated address". As part of the concocted raffle, the avatar guaranteed a return of "double the amount". David Schwartz, the chief technology officer of Ripple, had previously alerted investors on July 14 about rising XRP scams following the court's deliberation that sided with Ripple in its ongoing tussle with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). He emphasized that no giveaways, airdrops, or exceptional offers were linked to the judgment. A Reddit participant states that despite blatant evidence that the video ad was a fraudulent attempt to trick digital currency enthusiasts, Google refused to withdraw the deceptive ad. The Redditor displayed a feedback from Google's Trust and Safety team, stating that their decision was a result of the ad not infringing any of their protocols. The same user also encouraged other fellow users to send more relevant details within a six-month period. Moreover, Redditors circulated a link to this hidden deepfake ad on YouTube. At the time of documentation, the video had garnered over 17,000 views, even though it was not traceable on YouTube's platform. The Reddit community advised each other to abstain from engaging with the advert's QR code in order to prevent financial losses.
