Crypto Community Calls for Musk to Remove Misleading Bitcoin Creator Profile
Summary:
Crypto enthusiasts rally behind a post on platform X, urging Elon Musk to remove profiles impersonating Bitcoin's mythical creator, Satoshi Nakamoto. The post, by user Pledditor, argues that the profiles violate platform rules for bearing misleading identities. An X user, Andy Rowe, claimed in 2018 to operate the account in question, which resurfaced with a post recently after being dormant since 2018. The crypto community widely supports Pledditor's call for the profile's removal.
Cryptocurrency enthusiasts have united in support of a post on platform X, urging tech titan Elon Musk to take down a profile that has been impersonating Bitcoin's rumored creator, Satoshi Nakamoto. The post, made by user Pledditor on October 3, argues that the profiles under the names "Satoshi Nakamoto" and "Bitcoin" violate platform rules by bearing "misleading and deceptive" identities. Pledditor called on Musk to delete the approved symbols from these accounts.
Pledditor pointed out the relevant sections of the platform's terms of service violated by these accounts. He argued that imitating another person's identity, unless openly stated as a parody, is not permitted. Pledditor equated such actions to creating deceptive identities, like enterprising a sham 'Tesla' or 'Elon Musk' account. As per the platform's X, using a false identity to mislead other users is unlawful. The act includes posing as an existing individual and fabrications that deceive the community with false identities.
Despite the pervasive debate regarding the real identify of Satoshi Nakamoto, a long-standing point of contention in the Bitcoin and crypto world, an X user named Andy Rowe claimed to operate the account in 2018. On July 2, 2018, Rowe announced that he assembles "quotes" for the Satoshi account.
The account has been dormant since Oct. 31, 2018, but on Oct. 2 of the current year, the profile issued a new post, characterizing Bitcoin as a "predicate machine" and promising to delve into unique aspects of the whitepaper in the upcoming months.
The crypto community ardently endorsed Pledditor's post deeming the profile "disgraceful" and that such an account shutdown was imminent. One person revealed that he had earlier attempted to flag the accounts to the platform admins but got no response. Yet another user suggested disabling these profiles, comparing such an action to the disabling of the "@internet" account by X.
The real identity of Satoshi continues to be a puzzle, with numerous claimants over time. The most notable amongst these is Craig Wright. As of July 21, Wright won an appeal in a UK court for a lawsuit over Bitcoin rights, where he asserts ownership over the Bitcoin whitepaper and database.
